The recent networking social at Busboys and Poets, organized by the CSW Committee on Minority Affairs, was a huge success. The day was super rainy, but 15 members and non-members still showed up. There were students from George Mason University, Georgetown University, University of Maryland–and from as far away as UMBC–who came to participate. Professionals and postdoctoral students from Bowie State University, the American Chemical Society, EPA, AAAS, NIST, UMBC, and George Washington University also came to take part in networking. Discussion topics included how to obtain ACS membership, how to get more involved, student funding, and favorite fall activities. Everyone enjoyed connecting and shared contact information, and left ready for the next social! Dipo, a senior at UMBC, shared that he can’t wait for the next one and hopes to continue to make more meaningful connections.
