Maya Mourshed, previous local winner of the ACS Illustrated Poem Contest, has become a published author with her first book, Chemistories. This book is a collection of her short stories and poems about chemical elements that come to life, accompanied by her own illustrations. As the back cover explains “Each element has its own personality, its own voice, and its own story”. The book also contains sidebars that explain the chemistry behind each story and poem. Maya’s hope is that the book inspires children, particularly girls, to engage in chemistry.
