CSW Project SEED completed another success program for Summer 2024. We sponsored nine students with the ACS Project SEED program. The program has grown and diversified its services of providing hands-on summer research experiences (8 – 10 weeks) and virtual summer camps to more than 11,000 students in 40 U.S. states and territories. Project SEED’s Mission is to provide sustained STEM research, learning, and growth opportunities for high school students with diverse identities and socioeconomic backgrounds so they can be empowered to advance and enrich the chemical science enterprise.
The mentors for Summer 2024 were: Cindy Connelly Ryan and Fenella France, Library of Congress, Steven Cummings, Howard University, Marie Christine Daniel and Lekan Ajiboye, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Yanxin Liu, Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology Research at the University of Maryland College Park, Xueqing Song, University of the District of Columbia (UDC) and Alexandra Taraboletti, UDC.
CSW held Orientation, Career Symposium, Scientific Writing Workshop and a Poster Presentation events for the mentors, the students and their families. The posters were judged by CSW members and three winners were David Kim (1st place),Tan Phu Quach (2nd place) and Jaydon Sun (3rd place). A couple of the students visited other laboratories participating in SEED this summer.
We are grateful for the mentors, CSW volunteers the studentsand the ACS Project SEED Program for their hard work that helped make Summer 2024 a success.
