Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) is a non-profit organization committed to connecting and exposing Latina middle and high school students to opportunities that enrich their future through education, mentoring, and leadership development. The Latina Labs Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, And Science (STEAM) virtual Program is offered to the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) Latina middle school students. The Latina Labs STEAM program focuses on inspiring and exposing middle school girls (sixth to eighth grade) to STEAM topics, resources, and hands-on science activities. Each student is given a toolkit, which contains all the materials needed for the sessions and hands-on science activities. The students will learn about important science topics such as coding, space exploration, photosynthesis, popping boba, and how art is integrated with biology and chemistry concepts. The program takes place every Saturday in June (3, 10, 17 and 24th) from 11 am to 1 pm EST. The application for the program is the following: https://forms.gle/D4pcvCAb7xmBJ3Mg8. Donations are also accepted in our website and please specify that it is for LLT Latina Labs STEAM program.
We are looking for Madrinas who will serve as mentors and who will commit to participate in all four sessions of the Latina Labs in June. If interested, please fill out the form: https://forms.gle/US2QdKT3oJHfM4zF6.
We also need local DMV individuals who would like to serve as part of the Latina Labs STEAM committee or as a volunteer to help distribute the toolkits. If interested, please contact Dr. Teresa Ramírez at [email protected].
