Project SEED participants had a rare treat in August when the CSW-SEED committee organized a scientific writing and presentation workshop for them. The goal of the workshop was help empower Project SEED participants to learn to effectively communicate the science they were researching.
CSW’s Project SEED program was recently honored for the second year in a row with an ACS ChemLuminary Award. The award – ‘Outstanding Project SEED Program’ – acknowledged the incredible work the CSW-SEED committee has done for the program in our section. In 2015, CSW supported 18 economically disadvantaged high school students from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. (To learn more about ACS’ Project SEED program, click here.)
At the workshop, student participants were welcomed by Dr. Alan Anderson, CSW President. Dr. Walter Benson (FDA rtd,), Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed (NIST) and Dr. Ajay Mallia (CSW-SEED Chair) instructed the high school students about scientific writing skills, short research talk and poster presentation, respectively.
The workshop featured a lively discussion and question/answer sessions throughout. Feedback from participants was very positive, with students indicating that they enjoyed the event. The CSW-SEED committee hopes to repeat this successful event in future years.
